Possible Dangers When Working On a LIVE Database
If you have never been warned about the dangers of working on schema and structure changes on a LIVE FileMaker database…here is a really good example for why you should NOT be doing such craziness. While I considered writing something up, Chad does a great job showing us the issues involved in the video. Kudos Chad.
This is a concise demo of one of the hidden dangers of developing on a live system. Thank you for raising the alert and especially for illustrating the specific behavior under varying conditions. Well done, Chad!

Good to see you in the Rift, Lee!!! No doubt, a good demo. Working on a live system is sometimes unavoidable, but knowing what things it affects can help us find better ways to handle it.
I guess this is why so much of the “server maintenance” gets done at odd, non-business hours.

Thanks for the very clear illustration of the dangers of live modification of schema. And thanks for frightening me! I thought the only problem of working live were those pesky dialogues that prevented me from committing changes to a calc field until user x had finished editing her record!
